Phoenix mayor has big solar plans
for city
Phoenix mayor Phil Gordon is promoting a
"Green Phoenix" initiative that he believes could provide a chance to
make the city America's first carbon-neutral city.
In his state of the city address this week, Gordon described his
comprehensive 17-point plan that ranges from promoting energy and water
efficiency to fighting light pollution to installing more solar energy.
A separate report by the Associated Press notes that the plan also
includes solar panels and solar water heaters for city buildings, both
planned and existing.
"For reasons that should be obvious to everyone - if there's going to be
a Solar City - like there's a Silicon Valley - it shouldn't be in
Atlanta or Portland. It should be in Phoenix. It WILL be in Phoenix,"
Gordon said in his address.
Gordon's future vision for Phoenix includes solar power plants and solar
roof installations, and he noted that in several weeks the city will
issue a request for proposals for the area's first solar power plant.
